Cozumel Trip &mdash 1999

In the summer of 1999, Grace, Kaitlyn, and I went to Cozumel, Mexico. On the first day there, we drove around the island, visited the ruins and got familiar with the place. Most of these photos are from that day. On the rest of the week that we were there, I did a lot of diving and they did other beach related stuff. Here's some photos from the trip...

The east beach of Cozumel is quite a bit rockier than the west beach. The surf is quite a bit stronger also. It is not as developed as the west beach. Here's a photo looking south.

The sand over there is quite a bit different than what we have here in Texas. Driving even a couple of feet off-road will get you stuck. For some stupid reason, the place that we had rented the Jeep from had disable the 4WD, so I managed to get stuck VERY well. Another Jeep that was parked a couple of hundred feet down the road ended up in the same scenario. We finally got each other unstuck. Here's a photo of the east beach of Cozumel with our Jeep stuck in the sand.

We stayed at the Diamond Alegro resort there. Here's a photo of Grace in front of our cottage.

Still at the resort, Grace is on the beach.

Grace and Kaitlyn at one of the shops near one of the ruins on the island. Notice the iguana on the leash.

Here's a closer look at the iguana on the leash.

The first ruin site (which if in the southwest portion of the island is not very extensive. It seems to consist of a single building. At least they don't charge for you to see it.

Here's a closer look inside the ruin at the first site.

Here's a photo from the side of the first site.

On the north central portion of the island, there is another ruin site. This one is quite a bit more extensive than the other one. They charge a couple of dollars to see this one. Here's Grace and Kaitlyn taking a break.

Here's Kaitlyn sitting in the middle of one of the ruins.

It is quite a walk to go through the various sites. If you are going there, I would highly advise carrying a couple of frozen bottles of water. By the time you need to drink, it will be somewhat melted. Otherwise, you end up drinking hot water. You can buy small bottles of water at the entrance, but they are not very cold nor do they last very long.

Kaitlyn with yet another ruin.

There are quite a few iguana on the island. Here's a photo of two of them in a tree near one of the ruins.

All of these photos were taken with a Nikon N50 35mm SLR film camera. Film was printed and the prints scanned to JPEG format.
